Chronic pain, you can’t treat that

Early in 2015, I was presenting to a small group of doctors about how modern pain research could be used in the clinic.

My idea was simple: we should do more helpful actions, and less unhelpful actions. Learning about pain would help them to tell the difference.

“Chronic pain, you can’t treat that - that’s why they call it chronic”.  The words of a doctor in the front row.

Genius, I thought! One day, that will be the opening line in a book.
