why SYMC is like a roadtrip…
Posted by Kami on May 5, 2011 in Slider | 5 commentsFour days. That’s the length of the Simply Youth Ministry Conference, which pretty much means we’re “off” the other 361 days a year.
Not.
Just like youth ministry, there’s so much more ministry that happens behind the scenes than just showing up on Sundays and Wednesdays. And just like mission trips, a lot of real ministry happens on the roadtrip to get there. Real ministry happens one conversation, one relationship at a time. And God isn’t waiting for a cue to appear on stage or in a sanctuary. God shows up in the messy details and mishaps along the way.
Our crew at Group & SYM is passionate about ministry to youth workers. For us, the process of creating and planning SYMC has just as much significance as the event itself. That’s why we’re resurrecting this blog–to invite you along for this wild ride to the 2012 Simply Youth Ministry Conference in Louisville. We want you to know the real people behind the scenes, to share in the stories and conversations that shape the event. And we want to hear from you along the way.
So join us—jump onboard and roadtrip to SYMC with us. We can’t promise a comfortable ride without a few detours, breakdowns, mysterious odors and random conversations, but at the end of the journey we’ll know the real people who shared this journey.
Buckle up.

I began the roadtrip with SYMC the first year it began. Wow, what a ride! I have developed incredible relationships with authentic people who are in the trenches just like me. I have experienced God and found healing from the hurts of ministry. I have been equipped by innovative leaders who have helped me to take ministry to the next level… Last March I brought a group of volunteers to Chicago with me and they have all asked about coming to Louisville next year… maybe you should too?
The road trip is always half the fun in youth ministry! My wife and I missed the first year of SYMC and had to miss 2009 as well. Never again! We’re looking forward to 2012 with much anticipation. That’s not to load on any pressure, just to say we can’t wait!
My first year was 2009, in Columbus Ohio. It was, and is, like no student ministry conference that I know. I’ve taken ministry team members with me in 2010 and 2011; they loved the community fostered there.
Can’t wait until Louisville!
I was able to go to smyc Chicago due to the help if a veteran sync attendee. I am in my firat year of ministry and he said I had to check it out. I was so encouraged by his love to help me attend and the feeling that I belonged at this conference. I am telling every pastor I know about Louisville. Can’t wait
I was born and raised in the great town of Louisville, Ky. I am looking forward to going back to my Old Ky home. I have attended the confrence for the past two years and would not miss another one. I go to recharge my batterys and my friendships. Ministry can be a loney place. Symc conferms not only that I am not alone but that many more are going through what I go through on a dailey basis.
